The Pioneers in Facial Injectables & Aesthetic Dentistry
Dento-facial aesthetics is the ultimate cosmetic dentistry as it improves not only your smile, but the face that frames your smile.
Many patients choose to undergo dento-facial aesthetics to make the most out of a cosmetic dental treatment, so that wrinkles, fine lines or thin pursed lips do not distract from the appearance of their smile. If you suffer from any of these problems then the team at Refresh Dental Spa can help you. There are two main treatments involved in dento-facial aesthetics, including dermal fillers and muscle relaxants. However, dento-facial aesthetics takes into account your entire facial appearance, beginning with your smile and gums, and extending to other areas of the face.
What are ‘Threads’ and which areas can be treated?
Threads are fine synthetic Fibres made from a material called Polydioxanone (PDO), which has a long history of safe and reliable use in surgery. Traditionally, the only reliable treatment available for loose skin or skin laxity issues was to wait until the problem was serious enough to undergo a surgical “facelift” operation, with therapies such as HIFU and RF only available to be used for mild cases of skin laxity. Threads now offer a non-surgical, injectable alternative to traditional surgical facelift procedures as well as having the potential to improve the condition of the skin. The treatment objective depends on the type of thread being used.
- Mono – Skin rejuvenation, tightening & reconditioning e.g. Reduction of fine lines, wrinkles & improvement in texture by stimulation collagen.
- Cog Threads – Reduction of mild- moderate skin laxity by providing mechanical support and physically lifting sagging tissues.
Overall improvement is our goal when treating:
- Eyebrows and checks
- Lower face, jaw line, jowl and neck lifting
- Nasio-labial fold reduction
- Marionette lines
- Reduction of lip lines
What will happen during the treatment?
Following a thorough facial mapping appointment at which you clinician will determine the type, number and position of Thread placements, required to achieve the desired results. A treatment appointment takes approximately 30mins-1 Hour, topical and local anaesthetic is used to minimalise any discomfort at the time of the procedure. Threads are then placed into the skin using a disposable cannula or micro needle. Threads have small soft barbs (also known as cogs) that resemble a fishbone. When inserted just under the skin the cogs cling to the facial soft tissue, gently lifting the tissue and thereby providing a new support scaffolding that lifts and holds the tissue in place. These new threads rebuild the structure of your skin from within.
Over a period of nine to twelve months the threads dissolve – but before dissolving they produce fibrosis that in turn creates a new support scaffolding of collagen for the skin. This new scaffolding can lift and support the thread lift for many years to come.
How quickly will I notice an effect?
If “lifting” threads are used than effects will be apparent immediately after the procedure, with all Thread types however collagen production takes time and results will continue to improve over the following 2-3 months.
How long will the treatment last?
This will vary from individual to individual. It very much depends on factors such as a person’s age and lifestyle, the structure of the skin, and the degree of correction required. Most clients choose to have a repeat treatment within a year. The thread itself will dissolve completely after six months.
This is a very reliable and safe treatment but rarely some side effects can included bruising, redness, itching, bleeding, skin infection and some slight swelling at the site of treatment does sometimes occur, although rarely lasts more than a few days. Whilst most activities are fine to resume immediately after the procedure should not touch the area for at least six hours following treatment.
Post-operative instructions will be given to you which will include:
- Avoid chewing anything during the first 24 hours. You should stick to soft foods and liquids for as much as seven days.
- Keep your head elevated during the first day to reduce swelling.
