Implants
Dental implants are considered to be the most significant development in modern dentistry. Their strength and ability to naturally bond with your jawbone substituting for a missing tooth root has led to their increasing popularity.
In order to maintain ideal oral and overall health, it is essential you replace missing teeth as quickly as possible, not only for your appearance and self-confidence but missing teeth can lead to a loss of jawbone density, causing gum problems and allow your teeth on either side of the space to move, becoming crooked and difficult to clean effectively.
Following a thorough examination, placement of your implant is often a two-stage process.
For your first-stage appointment, you will be referred to our dental implant specialist who will place your implant in a simple procedure conducted under a local anaesthetic. This will involve a small incision in your gum-line and the implant gently guided into your jawbone at a precise position pre-determined through x-rays and oral examinations. Patients who receive implants attest there is very minimal to no discomfort during and after the procedure, often returning to work and their daily routine the following day.
Your implant is left for between 1-3 months to allow it to bond naturally with the jawbone, becoming the permanent fixture to which a crown, bridge or denture can be secured.
Following the placement of your implant and once it has bonded to your jawbone your second-stage appointment is scheduled with the Refresh Dental team. A mould is made so your replacement teeth can be created from high quality ceramic in a dental laboratory. Ceramic is selected for its strength and natural appearance qualities. Your new crown, bridge or dentures are then secured to your implant, restoring your smile and quality of life.
It is equally important to care for your implant and new ceramic teeth as caring for your natural teeth with brushing twice daily using a soft bristled toothbrush and flossing once a day. Although your implant is made from medical grade titanium and replacement teeth ceramic, your surrounding teeth and gum tissue are still vulnerable to gum disease.
Scheduling regular oral exams every six months and having your teeth cleaned professionally to maintain ongoing optimal dental health, will ensure your new implant, natural teeth and gums remain in perfect condition.
